Our Greatest Birth

Mike & Laurie We can't be absolutely sure just why you might have come to this page, but we can assure you that there is a profound reason for our inclusion of the following testimony.

Perhaps you've chosen to continue reading of our family because you can relate to the written pages dealing with the birth of a new life. That single moment of your baby’s birth completely changed your life for years to come, and now you've sought some advice from people you probably don't even know!

We've been thrilled to share our perspectives and experiences with you in this area, but our greatest joy is to speak of a birth that has taken place in our lives...years after our physical birth. It is called a "new birth", and those who have experienced this new beginning are said to be "born again".

When my wife and I were children, we each became very familiar with God's Word...the Holy Bible. There were many teachings that we did not fully understand, and still other recognized truths against which we chose to rebel. However, we eventually came to realize that we had nothing hidden before the all-knowing God of heaven. Even our thoughts and intentions were an open book before Him.

These Scriptures conveyed to us our true condition before the holy and just Creator of our very being. We had fallen short of His goodness, righteousness, and perfection. In fact, because of our self-righteous pride and rebellion, the Bible actually described us as being enemies to God.

There was no hope of heaven, eternal life, or reconciliation with our Maker because sin would forever separate us from His presence. Any good that we might try to do of our own will or strength was called a "filthy rag" as compared to God's righteousness.

Most disturbing was the fact that the Bible described an eternal place of torment to which all who reject God's salvation will be sent. It’s true! The Bible speaks even more of hell and the lake of fire than it does of the splendor and joy of heaven. Look it up for yourself.

Well, that was the sobering part of this account.

The wonderful news is that the Bible also speaks of the solution to this sin problem my wife and I had. In God's perfect plan, He provided salvation to all who will repent of sin and receive this free gift. This gift of salvation is found in Jesus Christ. The Scriptures clearly state that God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, to be the Savior of the world.

After living a perfect, sinless life on this earth, Christ's bloody death on the cross satisfied God's demand of a payment for sin. We could not accomplish this on our own, and so we are left to simply believe and trust that Jesus died in our place for our sin.

Bible verse The Scriptures repeatedly tell us that this incredible transaction has taken place because God loved us. This love led Him to give His Son, and this same love led His Son, Jesus, to take our place of punishment. Too often it is wrongly suggested that a loving God would not send anyone to hell. What should be mentioned is that His Word clearly says that He will do this, but that He is not willing that any should perish. His loving desire is that everyone turn from their own way, and come to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.

This possibility of peace, joy, security, and fellowship with God became a reality when both my wife and I did just that. We turned away from sin and self to trust in Jesus. We were "born again"...but this time the birth was a "spiritual birth". Just as we had each been physically born into our respective families years ago, we were now spiritually born into God's family!

Because of this new and greatest birth, we are now called children of God! We are assured of the eternal joys found in Christ's righteousness. Heaven is our eternal home, and we no longer face the wrath of God's judgment!

With all of that said, you can imagine what a changed and blessed life we now live on this earth. We aren't just waiting for eternity with the Lord in heaven. Our lives are now lived with assurance and peace. We have purpose which extends always toward God, but usually finds place in ministering to others (as is exemplified in this page!).

Material possessions cannot accompany us from this life to heaven, but we do know that you might one day join us. The Bible plainly states that "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Our purpose in sharing this page is that you might also know this joy of salvation in Jesus Christ!

To this point, we've shared several paragraphs about what the Bible actually does teach regarding sin and salvation, but generally in a conversational style void of a detailed and systematic approach. It is our hope that you will follow this link to a gospel presentation of the new birth. We recommend it because of its clarity, but above all, because it offers many direct quotations of the Bible.

Be sure to use the contact link at the end of the presentation to share with us your acceptance of Jesus Christ, or to ask us questions you still might have in this important area.
