Starting Baby on Solids

Babies are the most precious gift given by God to parents. I have a baby aged one and half years and there are many changes in the way our parents cared for us and the way we care for him.
Though mother’s milk was given to me for 1 year, beginning at one month old my mother started giving me semi-solid foods like ragi (an East Indian grain) ground and made into a paste. Nowadays doctors advise to give only mother’s milk to babies till six months.
I have started my baby on semi-solid food only after six months and slowly started solid foods by 9 months. Now I give him almost all nutritious foods.
In earlier days, cloth diapers were used by our parents for us. Now we have a variety of options for diapers and that is very helpful when we take the baby out. These diapers also help keep the baby away from the wet feeling while sleeping and playing.
Today lots of baby products are available on the market to keep baby skin soft and for all the needs of the baby. I feel baby care has really improved these days, except for the fact we are not able to spend as much time as our parents spent with us, as we have to go to work.
