Arsenic in Infant Formula?
Don't get me wrong, I've used infant formula when I haven't had any other choice, but when I read articles like this one, it makes me thankful that most of my kids were 100% breastfed.
How disturbing for all of us who have used/are using infant formula.

Make Your Own Homemade Baby Wipes
I've almost always used commercial baby wipes for my children, until I started this website and began researching what was in them. Now I'm sold on homemade baby wipes, not only for their health value, but also for their savings!

Best Breast Pumps
Does every breastfeeding mother need a breastpump? No. I managed to get through my first seven kids without one. But I only had three options when I needed to go somewhere:
- Take the baby with me
- Get back to the baby before she needed to be fed
- Have someone give her a bottle of formula
A breastpump is extremely useful when you need to be away from your baby, or to assist in increasing milk production.
I became very familiar with using a breastpump when my 9th baby wasn't able to nurse. After 13 months of exclusively pumping, I recently put the pump away into storage. I'm very thankful that with it's assistance, I was able to provide my baby with the very best nutrition available.
This article, written by a guest author who has extensive experience with a variety of breastpumps, details the differences between the various types of pumps.

Baby Temperature? How You Can Tell
A baby fever, especially in a child younger than 3 months, can be a cause for concern. A newborn's immune system is very immature and not as able to fight off infection as it will be in a few months. It's very important to get an accurate baby temperature, so that an informed decision can be made.

Calming a Crying Newborn
A Review of the Method - The Happiest Baby on the Block by Dr. Harvey Karp, M.D.
There are times when, no matter what you do, your newborn will cry. For some babies, it's their way of life. I know moms who tell me about marathon crying sessions, and that is exhausting and heart-breaking for all parties involved.
The Happiest Baby on the Block by Dr. Harvey Karp, M.D., was a book that I have heard great things about for a few years now, and recently I decided to check it out.

A Breast Pump Bra - Multi-Tasking at Its Best

Having exclusively pumped breastmilk for my youngest for her entire first year (long story, for another day), I have become well-familiar with the ins and outs (no pun intended) of pumping. For most of this year, I have attempted to make do with the balancing/propping act so that I could make good use of my time. Sometimes this worked, others times...not.
Finally, I decided to try a breast pump bra to see if it really would help me do a better job of multi-tasking...

Newborn Screening Questions
What is newborn screening?
"Every infant born in the US is tested for inherited diseases. These tests are done as part of each state’s newborn screening program. Blood is collected for these tests shortly after birth. After testing is completed, the DNA from these blood samples can be used for future research studies on various diseases."
- from the study, "Not Without My Permission" - University of Michigan
Does the idea of your state government storing and using your newborn babys DNA (without your consent) bother you? See this article for information that all new parents should know.

Black Friday is a Good Day for New Moms!
One of my favorite "everything" stores, Wayfair, has let me in on their Black Friday/After Thanksgiving promo codes for new moms. (That just proves the point, "It's not what you know, but who you know!"
The first deal is 30 percent off the ultra-chic JP Lizzy Diaper Bags. You won't need a promo code for this one as the prices will be reduced on the site. But don't dilly-dally, since the sale is only on from 11/25/11 until 11/28/11.
The next promo code I wanted to share is for Plan Toys. Made by "environmentally safe, responsible and sustainable methods", these sturdy rubberwood toys will last long enough to be handed down to your grandchildren. This sale does require the coupon code "plan10", and runs 11/25/11 through 12/9/11.
Here is the low-down for the rest of the sales for Wayfair:
- 20% off retail price. Exclusive DaVinci crib & changer set for only $299 with free shipping. While supplies last. Offer good now until 12/7/11, no promo code necessary.
- This one is for Wayfair's sister site, All Modern Baby, and will give you 10% off baby products when you spend $100 or more. You will need to enter the code "modernbaby10" at checkout, but be sure to do it by 12/4/11.
- The last "can't miss it" deal that I need to pass along (for today) is for UPPAbaby Vista Strollers. If you've been eying one and not yet taken the plunge, here is your chance! For one week only, get 30% off! The deal starts tomorrow (11/22/11) and goes through 11/29/11... don't miss it.

Gearing up for Baby Deals during the After-Thanksgiving Day Sales?
I've never been one of those crazy people who get up in the wee hours of the morning on the day after Thanksgiving in order to be the first in line for the great sales available. I'm sure there is a thrill getting trampled by crowds after having your toes half-frozen from waiting for hours outside in the dark for the store doors to open.
My kind of shopping is from by comfy chair in front of the computer with a cappacino in one hand. My kind of thrill comes from finding that terrific deal without even wrestling with one sale-crazy, sleep-deprived grandmother grabbing the very last item off the shelf.
If you are with me, you'll be as excited as I am to take advantage of online retailers who are providing awesome Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals.
The first deal I found is from Layla Grace's Boutique. Get 15% off the entire site (a few exclusions) ONLY 11/25/11 through 11/28/11. If you really want to get into the spirit of things, you could start sitting at your computer at 11:59 Thanksgiving evening so that you are the first to take advantage. (And you'd could still get to bed by 12:15!)

Stay tuned for more holiday cyber-deals in the coming days...
Baby Deals You Can't Miss!

Did you know that Amazon.com loves new parents?
And why wouldn't they? When a new parent arrives at Amazon.com, they hear a "ka-ching" in the corporate office. (OK, not really. But everyone knows that those tiny newborns can squeeze a fair amount of money out of new parents.)
Anyway, Amazon is trying to make it easier on new parents and secure a repeat customer by offering a program called Amazon Mom .
It is really a terrific deal that offers 20% off of diapers with membership, as well as free 2-day shipping on items, free 365 day returns, and other specials. The program is free for moms, dads, caregivers, or anyone who is responsible for caring for a baby.
Do you feel their love?
